Tutorial: Thoughtslinger on Windows XP/Vista


Run Thoughtslinger and log in.

The very short tutorial:

  1. Add a contact
  2. Create a new document
  3. Invite your contact to co-edit
  4. Co-edit at will

The short tutorial:

When you first run Thoughtslinger, your contact list is empty. To add a contact, select 'Add Contact' from the Contacts menu.

Select 'Add Contact' from the Contacts menu.

Enter the Thoughtslinger username for one of your contacts.

Enter your contact's Thoughtslinger user name.

Click the 'New Document' button on the toolbar. Enter some text, or paste in some text from another application.

Click the 'New Document' toolbar button and enter some text.

Click the 'Track Changes' button on the toolbar to enable change-tracking.

Click the 'Track Changes' toolbar button to enable change-tracking.

Enter some additional text. With change-tracking enabled, everything you and your co-editors type is tracked with underlines and strikeouts.

Change-tracking makes everyone's edits easy to see.

From the Tools menu choose 'Propagate...' and set your propagation rate to 'On Keystroke'. This means that you will share every keystroke with your co-editors.

Propagate your changes on every keystroke.

Contacts who are online and available have a filled green circle next to their names. Right-click on an available contact and select 'Invite Contact' from the popup menu.

Right-click on a contact and choose 'Invite Contact'.

Give your contact appropriate privileges in the document.

Co-editing Privileges

When your contact accepts the invitation, the contact list entry shows a checkmark.

Co-edit at will.
